Students, faculty, staff, and members of the Indianapolis community are
invited to join in the exciting prospect of developing a Multicultural
Center at IUPUI. In response to deep student, staff, and faculty
interest in such a center, IUPUI Chancellor Charles Bantz has committed
the campus to establishing one in the near future. During 2006-07, the
Multicultural Center Concept Committee developed a document setting
forth a vision for the Center based on the dual concepts of "inclusion
and focus." It was also determined that the Center will be located in
the University College building. During 2007-08, the Multicultural
Center Implementation Committee will develop concrete plans for the
staffing, budgeting, space, and activities that will bring the Center
into action.
The first step in moving from concept to implementation is to have a
collective conversation concerning the report of the Concept Committee.
Students, staff, faculty, and members of the Indianapolis community
are urged to read the document and register their responses. Is the
basic concept a sound one? Is there anything missing? Is there
anything that should be deleted? What kinds of activities would you
like to see occurring at the Multicultural Center?
The Concept Committee report is posted at
http://www.iupui.edu/diversity/planning/mcc.html. There you will see
the original charge to the Concept Committee, and at the bottom of the
page is a link to their final report.
There will be a Town Hall meeting to discuss the report:
December 3, 2007
12:00-2:00
University College, Room 115
Anyone with an interest in the Multicultural Center is urged to attend.
This is a very important step for IUPUI, and it is very important
that all who have an interest in the Center participate in the
conversations leading to its implementation. If you cannot attend the
Town Hall, you can still register your responses to the Concept
Committee report by email at mcic@iupui.edu
